Rebecca Patrick
I began my artist journey in 2004 while in my last year of college in my home state of New York. While earning my degree in graphic design, I started experimenting with abstract painting, which later evolved into a true passion with floral impressionism. I expanded my artist career when I moved to Austin, TX in 2007. I currently reside in the beautiful Finger Lakes Region with my husband and daughter.
My work can be seen at ART on 5th Gallery in Austin, TX.
Artistic Focus: I enjoy bringing life to blank walls using luminescent colors and an abundance of texture. I lay the paint on extremely thick with sweeping knife strokes that tattoo fluidity onto the canvas. The paint cures in a way that makes it appear as if it's still wet, provoking a curiosity to touch it. I create what I create because it's what I'm passionate about. Every piece is a reflection of my personal style that I would hang in my own home and I love sharing that common passion with others.
Inspiration: When I paint, it is just me, my music, and my creativity outpouring onto each blank white canvas. It is as if nothing else exists in that moment when my palette knife hits the canvas. I never thought my love of art would turn into an everyday enjoyment as I have expanded into a place where I feel true passion, with floral impressionism.
Painting inspiration: I have always had a fascination with the new life that the season of Spring can bring. I get excited over the bursts of color, and fields of spring flowers covering the landscape. This has inspired my appreciation for the way color and texture play together on the canvas with each stroke of the palette knife. These are the foundations of my artwork. My paintings start with a color idea, then evolve into compositions in which color and fluidity are the primary subjects. To me, art is a synthesis of my personal feelings, the subject and colors that inspire me and my materials and techniques. I enjoy painting impressionistic florals, cityscapes and landscapes.
